Patrick was born
on May 25, 1854; Mary, on January 1, 1855. They
were married on June 8, 1876 at St. John's Church,
Greenbush, New York. They were then young
immigrants; he was just twenty two and she,
twenty-one.
He had emigrated to work on a farm several years
beforehand and was illiterate but showed signs of
being talented with good judgment. She was
literate and though she bore the same surname
before marriage it was always claimed that they
"were not related". Their marriage must
have been agreed upon before she emigrated. |
Patrick
immigrated in about 1874 and was probably met by
his brothers Owen and Michael who had immigrated
several years before him an were living in East
Greenbush. They probably took him up the Hudson
River to the city of Albany, which was not far
from East Greenbush
Patrick would later move his family to DeKalb
County Illinois where he would purchase his own
farm. Later, he would sponsor the immigration of
his younger bother Hugh, who would also settle in
DeKalb County. |
Patrick and Mary
would eventually have 12 children (8 boys and 4
Girls), three of the children would die before
reaching the age of four. In addition, Mary lost
3 male infants at birth.
Patrick died at the age of 84 in 1938, Mary died
of Diabetes in 1913.
