| Welcome; My name is Michael Joseph McMenamin, I am a descendant of James McMenamin (circa 1815 - 1890) and Anne McMenamin (circa 1815 - 1885) of a Townland called Edenreagh, near the city of Castlederg in County Tyrone, Northern Ireland. Several years ago, I received an interesting document written by Joseph P. McMenamin of Chicago, Illinois that told the story of his Grandfather, Patrick Joseph McMenamin. Patrick was one of James and Anne's sons who had immigrated to America and eventually settled in DeKalb County, Illinois. I found this document of particular interest as Patrick was the brother of my Great Grandfather, Hugh McMenamin (1856 - 1936) who also immigrated and settled in the DeKalb area. Reading this document, was the first time that I had any insight into many of the questions I had often wondered about concerning the lives and personalities of my ancestors. |

| I would later learn that Joseph was a
teacher, historian and an avid genealogist who actively
researched Irish History and devotedly documented the
genealogy of the McMenamins from County Tyrone. A
majority of the information contained in this web site is
a direct result of Joe's life long efforts and diligent
hard work. Anyone who visits this sight and finds it of
interest, owes a debt of gratitude the man named Joseph
Patrick McMenamin. A few years later I was introduced to Mary McMenamin Hirsch, who is (like me) a descendant of Hugh McMenamin. Mary has also researched and has documented much of the history of the McMenamins. Mary is the author of the document "Irish Family History - Hugh McMenamin & Mary McQuire" which formed the foundation for the story which this website is fashioned around entitled "The Immigrant". I started this website in the hopes that other McMenamins would find these stories as interesting and enjoyable as I have and to present them in a way that all can enjoy. I look forward to continue adding and expanding this site as I collect additional family history. I invite anyone with additional information to please contribute what you may have (data, photos, trees, corrections etc.) so other (and future) McMenamins can learn about the rich colorful history that is truly McMenamin. My apologies for any inaccuracies or missing information that you may find. I urge you to please notify me and I will correct or add any information that is not accurate or is missing. In closing, I hope you enjoy this website, feel that it is yours and will contribute what you can. As someone once said; "Our children are living messages we send to a time and place we will never see"... Let us equip them to be good messages. Mike (Son of John Jr., Son of John Sr., Son of Hugh, Son of James) |
